Aston Martin DB9 Dimming Rear View Mirror. My 2006 DB9 Volante came with a manual dimming Interior rear view mirror, later cars (2007 MY) came with an auto dimming mirror as an option in most of the world but standard in the US and standard in the rest of the world in 2009. The stock mirror disadvantage is that it tilts to dim leading to ghosting in the mirror, mine also looked rather tatty and felt rather cheap.
From the time that the auto dimming mirror became available as an option the wiring was built in to the car meaning a dimming mirror could just be plugged in, as my car is 2006 there was no standard wiring for the rear view mirror.
I decided to fit the homelink version of the mirror, this has a 3 channel remote transmitter built into the mirror for remote opening of gates, garage doors etc.
Ther homelink dimming mirror needs 4 connections, Permanent Power so that the homelink doesn’t lose its programming, Ignition on to power homelink and auto dimming, reverse (to turn off dimming when reversing ) and an earth.
Installing the DB9 Auto Dimming Mirror
I bought some 4 way connectors and cut off the original from the mirror (this has the advantage that the cable can be fed through the mirror base to the roof lining instead of being loose).
Need to do this on my vantage so looking forward to you forging the path on this one 🙂
